Maura Green’s relationship with Studio Revolution has been the slow and steady kind. She started off with once a week classes way back in the fall of 2015, gradually built up to three a week and now we are lucky to see her smiling face almost daily! The 32-year-old grade two teacher has an action packed schedule both inside and outside of the classroom, but she managed to commit herself to our six-week Bikini Revolution program recently and, well, she won the whole darn thing! Check out what Ms. Green had to say about the here Bikini Revolution experience and what she will be taking away from it below and make sure to say, “hey and congrats!” next time you find yourself hitting the break beside her in class. Well done, Maura! We couldn’t be more proud of your accomplishments.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO SIGN UP FOR BIKINI REVOLUTION?

I had been trying to make lifestyle changes for a while. I was working out quite a bit, but I knew I wasn’t fueling my body properly. My body wasn’t able to keep up with what I had set my mind to doing. I was seeing some results, but not as fast as I wanted. The nutrition coaching aspect of BR is what interested me most as it was the missing piece in the puzzle for me. I was already doing personal training with Rachel, so after talking to her a little bit about nutrition she seemed to have a balanced view.  I wasn’t interested in some extreme diet—I thought it would be a good fit and it was.

WHAT WERE YOU HOPING TO GET OUT OF THE PROGRAM?

I was hoping to get real information about nutrition, not a crash diet for 6 weeks.  I wanted strategies that I will be able to use in life not just the challenge. I got that! I wanted to see better performance from my body like increased strength and endurance—I think I got that too!

WHAT WAS IT LIKE COMMITTING YOURSELF TO THIS ROUTINE?

I had a pretty decent workout routine already so committing to more was not a really huge change. I already knew how supportive and motivating the instructors are at Studio Rev. Nutrition was the big commitment in my case.

When I first met with Rachel for the first nutrition meeting I was completely overwhelmed.  I think I may have been staring back at her like a deer in the headlights. No clue how to start making the changes she was suggesting. Rachel broke down all the changes into small steps and this made it so much more doable. The meal prepping was difficult at first, but my husband was a great help and support, cleaning dishes and grocery shopping with me.  Because my energy level went up pretty quickly as a result of the small changes I was motivated to continue making small changes a bit at a time. Meal prepping is just part of the weekly routine.

I was also challenged when it came to making healthy choices when socializing. Rachel was really great helping me to make a plan for different social situations so that I could stay on track but still enjoy myself. The Mindset/Nutrition workshop half way through the six weeks was great for keeping focused.  There was a part about remembering your anchor and why you started—I keep this in my mind all the time.

WHAT HAS CHANGED OR WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED DURING THIS SIX WEEK COMMITMENT TO YOUR HEALTH?

My energy level has changed drastically. I have more than enough to keep up with my very busy class and to make it to a work out and cook supper. Before this challenge, it was a slog to be able to keep up. I learned that I am capable of change. I can make healthy choices without feeling like I am missing out or depriving myself of something. Healthy eating doesn’t mean being hungry. When your body is fueled properly you can see great changes in your workout.

DID YOU LEARN OR GAIN ANYTHING THAT YOU WILL BE TAKING FORWARD WITH YOU IN YOUR HEALTHY LIFESTYLE JOURNEY?

I gained so much knowledge on how to fuel my body for my activity level.  I gained so much energy and a sense of well-being.  I’m going to continue with the changes that I’ve made. The strategies that I’ve learned over the last six weeks are sustainable. Six weeks was a good amount of time to be able to make them into new habits.

HOW WAS YOUR BIKINI REVOLUTION EXPERIENCE OVERALL?

I had a great experience. As soon as I started making changes to what I was eating my workout routine became so much easier—I didn’t think it was possible to feel that energized.  It was definitely worth the effort. It was such a great feeling to be able to break through my old personal bests in the performance testing.  Yeah I lost weight and toned up pretty well, I get a lot of attention for that, but it’s not as satisfying as being able to get my body to do more and reach higher goals!
