The power of Instagram is real, friends. Not only can it give you all the cute pomeranians in sweaters and food porn shots you need to make it through the day, but in the case of Bikini Revolution all-star, Amber Reimer, it can also introduce you to the fitness option you have been searching for. “I saw the instagram post about the Bikini Revolution program and it was exactly the challenge I was looking for,” recalls the 43-year-old Manager of Leadership Effectiveness with WestJet. “The Bikini Revolution was my first experience with Studio Revolution and it was a game changer.”  

We caught up with Amber to get the full scoop on her “revolutionary” experience and her truly kickass attitude and results.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO SIGN UP FOR BIKINI REVOLUTION?

“I was coming up on the one year anniversary of my bi-lateral hip resurfacing surgery in October and I wanted to commit to getting myself back to a place where I felt my body was strong and capable. Another important motivator was that I wanted to be sure that I was not repeating any old patterns after being injured for so long. The holistic approach of the BR program (personal training, nutrition support, mindset workshop, functional movement testing with Dr.Tan) had all of the features I was looking for to get myself back to the version of ‘me’ that I had known prior to being sidelined due to my hip issues.

WHAT WERE YOU HOPING TO GET OUT OF THE PROGRAM?

Increasing my flexibility, strength and overall body composition were my immediate goals. The outcomes were all that and more.

The carrot dangling in front of me throughout the six-week challenge was a 10 day Maui vacation with my husband and son. The timing was perfect as we were booked to go right as the six-week challenge came to a close. My Maui goal was to be able to get back up on a stand up paddle board with ease and strength . What seems like a pretty simple physical task for most had eluded me for the last five years as my hip situation prevented me from doing really basic things like walk up or down stairs easily, hike, run, or even bend down to tie my shoes. The osteoarthritis in both of my hips limited my flexibility and was a type of pain and discomfort that I wish upon no one! So, when I finally stood up on that board on that perfect Maui day, I definitely had some happy tears! It was truly the most amazing feeling. Once my feet were balanced on the board, I took a few strokes with my paddle and noticed a huge sea turtle gliding alongside me. Mr.Turtle knew how significant of a moment it was for me and was there cheering me on.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU MAKE IT INTO STUDIO REV AND  WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE STYLE OF CLASS?

Twice per week (1 PT & 1 class) and so far TRX is my fave. I’ve added a minimum of 2 Fitbot workouts at home as well. I am loving the flexibility, simplicity and most importantly, the accountability of the FitBot tool.

TELL ME ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE ITSELF. WHAT WAS IT LIKE COMMITTING YOURSELF TO THIS ROUTINE?

The moment I committed to the six-week BR, my work-life suddenly sped up significantly. I had three out of town work trips, a last minute family commitment and a whole lot of early mornings and long days that I was not anticipating. The added time challenges actually made me dig deeper to keep my commitments to myself. I used my workouts to recharge and stay calibrated so I could bring my best to the other parts of my life.

WHAT HAS CHANGED OR WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED DURING THIS SIX WEEK COMMITMENT TO YOUR HEALTH?

Being committed to fitness has transformed from a discipline that felt hard (there were a few 6am workouts that were not fun to wake up for!) to a habit. I am actually at the point where I crave getting sweaty! Before doing the BR, workouts were the first thing to get cut from my schedule, now I plan my week so I can get them all in. It has become the thing I don’t compromise on, and low and behold, I seem to have the energy to keep up with my very full schedule.  

DID YOU LEARN OR GAIN ANYTHING THAT YOU WILL BE TAKING FORWARD WITH YOU IN YOUR HEALTHY LIFESTYLE JOURNEY?

My most significant gain, in addition to losing some inches, has been the sweet satisfaction of not letting myself down. I truly committed to the BR challenge and I have the results to show for it. I am excited to get to work on the next set of goals—unassisted pull-ups! Plural means two right? And getting a favourite dress to fit again.

HOW WAS YOUR BIKINI REVOLUTION EXPERIENCE OVERALL? WORTH THE EFFORT?

The Bikini Revolution was truly a gift to myself. Mallory and the team at SRF are amazing. They offered so much encouragement and positivity along the way. The vibe at Studio Revolution is really inclusive and fun—such a great community.
