Post Stampede Rejuvenator
For the downtown community, Stampede is a chaotic time of year in Calgary. It seems that there are always an infinite number of pancake breakfasts and parties to attend. The 10 days run FAST, and at a pace that can be difficult to keep up with.
At Studio Revolution, we believe in the importance of a balanced lifestyle. To us, it’s important that we listen to our bodies so that we can give them what we need. Now that Stampede 2014 has come to an end, we’re catching our second wind at our Surf Salutations classes.
Surf Salutations is our 45 minute yoga inspired class performed on the SURFSET board. The class is a post stampede body rejuvenator as yoga supports and aids in the bodies natural detoxification process. Through gentle stretches, twists, and inversions yoga helps to flush toxins out of the body. The chillaxed setting and soothing beats of our Surf Salutation class inspire a zen like surf, perfect for lowering stress.
Detox Move: SUP Chair Twist
One of our favorite surf salutation detox exercises is the SUP (Stand Up Paddle) Chair with a twist. This moves builds heat in the legs and compresses the internal organs responsible for detoxification (the liver, the kidney, the small intestine and the large intestine).
To Perform This Move:
- Come to the center of your board and stand tall, feet hip width apart, (for an added challenge you can bring your feet to touch).
- Bring your hands to heart center and sit deep into your chair position. Hold here for a few breaths.
- On an exhale, twist to your right. (Twist from the core). Keep your hands in prayer position and bring your left elbow to the outside of your right knee. Hold for a few breaths and release to center. Repeat the twist on your left side.
The SUP Chair Twist is a powerful move that helps with digestion and circulation, and is perfect for re-building, rejuvenating and replenishing the bodies health after 10 full days of fun!
